Mosbach website

Mosbach is a market town in the valley of the Neckar, a tributary of the Rhine in southern Germany, lying 25 miles south east of Heidelberg and 35 miles north of Stuttgart.  The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside with rolling hills, forest and steep-sided river valleys. To the east is the forested area known as the Odenwald.

Its history dates back to Roman times, and it has a medieval quarter with many impressive half-timbered houses. In the 16th century, guilds like the weavers, bakers, millers, tanners, cutlers and coopers increased the importance of the town and these trades are reflected in street names and signs on some of the old houses. Today the town has industries including shoe manufacture, as well as retail and service sectors.  It has a population of around 24,000 but is the administrative centre for the larger population of the wider local area and so it has a full range of community facilities.

Mosbach has a Spring Festival on the second weekend in May as well as a ‘Mosbacher Sommer’ programme of activities. There is a twice-weekly market.

Exchange visits to Mosbach

Our twinning link with Mosbach dates back to 1996 (signing in Lymington) and 1997 (signing in Mosbach).  LITA members visit Mosbach to stay with our host families and welcome them to stay with us in Lymington in alternate years.  We go to Mosbach in odd number years; and they visit us in even number years.  A group travel together, flying from Heathrow to Frankfurt where we are collected by coach by our hosts whilst some members travel independently to extend their time in Germany.
